Admissions process and how to apply

For Kinders (3+) or Reception (4+):

For Year 1 (5+) to Year 5 (9+):

All pupils are assessed before entry to the Junior School.

Pupils are admitted at all ages between 3+ and 10+ although the vast majority enter in the September following their third or fourth birthday (Kinders or Reception). When an application is returned a date for assessment is set.

Assessment for those entering at 3+ and 4+ in September takes place during the previous February. Children spend a morning in a small group during which time our experienced staff will be able to gauge their level of skill development and readiness for school.

Parents wishing their children to be admitted to the Infant Department at times other than in September are invited to bring their child to school to spend part of a day with the class he or she would join. Class teachers then carry out an assessment to determine whether or not the child will be able to integrate into the year group.

Pupils older than six hoping to enter the school have a more formal written assessment in English and Mathematics.

Assessment Feedback

LGJS does not provide assessment scores to applicants.

If required, we offer unsuccessful candidates a short phone call providing feedback on areas where an applicant was below the LGJS entry standard. We will endeavour to do this within a month of the assessment outcome. However, timings cannot be guaranteed due to the volume of applicants and the school timetable.

LGJS does not offer face-to-face feedback meetings to unsuccessful applicants.
